Bright Sparks for Islington
Commissioned by Islington Council and set-up by London Community Resource Network (LCRN) the project has a shop, repair workshop and small electrical donation sites. The shop and repairs workshop are run by charity DigiBridge CIC.
Collection points across the borough allow people to donate broken or unwanted small electrical items and the shop sells the repaired electrical goods at affordable prices for local people on limited budgets. In this way Bright Sparks aims to prevent items from going into the waste stream, reducing carbon pollution and the ensuing damage to the environment. What’s more the workshop gives people training and volunteering opportunities helping the local economy. What a bright idea!
“The design concept consists of a spark created from illustrations of electrical goods and works as a visual reference for residents to see what items can be repaired at the shop,” said Senior Designer, Lou Lauwerys. “We kept the language upbeat and positive, playing on the ‘bright’ theme with a straightforward does-what-it-says-on-the-tin attitude.” So far the identity has been used for shop signs, banners, posters and leaflets.
